Wk 23: (Tue) Easter—Worthy Is the Lamb Who Was Slain, Revelation 5.11-14

The LORD God is the Creator of the ends of the earth. He has established laws in nature which govern all the processes of life–planting, growth, cultivation and harvest. These principles give us insight on how to conduct our lives, families, churches, and societies (to continue reading this essay, click on image above).

Worthy Is the Lamb Who Was Slain, Revelation 5.11-14
The encounter of celestial worship in Revelation 5 portrays a scene where concentric circles of praise radiate outward, beginning with countless angels surrounding the throne and expanding to include every created being in heaven, on earth, under the earth, and in the sea. At the center of this cosmic liturgy stands the slain yet victorious Lamb alongside God the Father, both receiving identical worship that acknowledges their shared divine nature and authority. In the scene’s climax, all creation offers a fourfold doxology to both the enthroned Father and the Lamb, concluding with the four living creatures affirming with “Amen” and the twenty-four elders prostrating themselves in reverent worship. Because of Calvary and the resurrection, Jesus has established his supremacy and ultimate worthiness, based on his victory and redemptive sacrifice.

Our Focus Today
The Sevenfold Acclamation.
The angels loudly proclaim that the Lamb who was slain is worthy to receive power and wealth and wisdom and strength and honor and glory and praise, connecting Jesus’ sacrifice as the basis for his worthiness, Rev. 5.12.

Invocation
Worthy Lamb of God, let my life offer you what you are truly worthy to receive. Join my voice with the countless angels who proclaim your supreme worthiness to receive all power, wealth, wisdom, strength, honor, glory, and praise. Open my heart and mind to comprehend more fully the connection between your sacrificial death and your divine authority, so that my life may acknowledge not only what you give but who you are. I surrender to you every dimension of my life, and desire that my service to you recognize your lordship and worthiness, which you established through your sacrifice and resurrection. Amen.

Gloria Patri
Glory be to the Father,
And to the Son and to the Holy Spirit:
As it was in the beginning,
Is now, and ever shall be,
World without end. Amen, amen.

Reflection
The sevenfold acclamation offered up to the Lamb reveals how Christ’s sacrificial death is the foundation for his cosmic authority and the reason he deserves our complete worship and allegiance. Our worship recognizes and proclaims the supremacy of Christ, all based on his incarnation and redemption. The comprehensive nature of the sevenfold attributes reminds us that Christ deserves recognition in every dimension of our lives—our decisions, resources, relationships, and priorities should all reflect and acknowledge his lordship and worth. These seven attributes allow us a more complete understanding of Christ’s majesty and his sufficiency for all we need to honor him and recognize his glory.

Engaging God’s Word Today
Which of the seven attributes ascribed to the Lamb (power, wealth, wisdom, strength, honor, glory, and praise) do you find most difficult to fully surrender to Christ’s authority in your daily life? How can you gain a deeper perspective in this area?

Nicene Creed
We believe in one God, The Father Almighty,
Maker of heaven and earth and of all things visible and invisible.

We believe in one Lord Jesus Christ, the only Begotten Son of God,
Begotten of the Father before all ages,
God from God, Light from Light, True God from True God,
Begotten not created, of the same essence as the Father,
through Whom all things were made.

Who for us men and for our salvation came down from heaven
and was incarnate by the Holy Spirit and the virgin Mary and became human.
Who for us too, was crucified under Pontius Pilate, suffered and was buried.
The third day He rose again according to the Scriptures, ascended into heaven
and is seated at the right hand of the Father.
He will come again in glory to judge the living and the dead,
and His kingdom will have no end.

We believe in the Holy Spirit, the Lord and life-giver,
Who proceeds from the Father and the Son.
Who together with the Father and Son is worshiped and glorified.
Who spoke by the prophets.

We believe in one holy, catholic, and apostolic church.

We acknowledge one baptism for the forgiveness of sin,
and we look for the resurrection of the dead
and the life of the age to come. Amen.

The Lord’s Prayer
Our Father who art in heaven, hallowed be thy name. Thy Kingdom come, thy will be done in earth as it is in heaven. Give us this day our daily bread and forgive us our debts as we forgive our debtors. And lead us not into temptation, but deliver us from evil. For thine is the Kingdom, and the power, and the glory for ever. Amen.

Doxology
Praise God from whom all blessings flow;
Praise Him all creatures here below;
Praise Him above ye heavenly host;
Praise Father, Son and Holy Ghost. Amen.

Benediction
Lord, as I close my devotion to you help me depart with a renewed vision of who you are, the Lamb who was slain whose sacrifice has established your worthiness to receive all power, wealth, wisdom, strength, honor, glory, and praise. May this sevenfold acclamation transform my understanding of worship, moving me beyond seeking what you give me as my source and guide alone but rather now to genuinely acknowledge your supreme worth in every area of my life. Let your Holy Spirit empower me to live as a witness to your supremacy and grace, that others may see my devotion to you through my words, choices, and priorities and be led to become your follower as I am. Amen.

Scripture Memory for this season
Psalm 1.1-3 (ESV):
1 “Blessed is the man who walks not in the counsel of the wicked,
nor stands in the way of sinners, nor sits in the seat of scoffers;
2 but his delight is in the law of the Lord,
and on his law he meditates day and night.
3 He is like a tree planted by streams of water
that yields its fruit in its season, and its leaf does not wither.
4 In all that he does, he prospers.”

Scripture Engagement
As disciples of Jesus, the Churches of Christ the King strongly seek to engage the Scriptures to discover the centrality of Christ and his Kingdom in the prophetic and apostolic writings. You will find a rich treasure of resources on engaging Scripture at the Center for Scripture Engagement of Taylor University.

Book Reading and Reflection
“Behind every system of actions are a system of beliefs. The system of a democracy is founded on beliefs like freedom, majority rule, and social equality. The system of a dictatorship has a very different set of beliefs like absolute authority and strict obedience. You can imagine many ways to try to get more people to vote in a democracy, but such behavior change would never get off the ground in a dictatorship. That’s not the identity of the system. Voting is a behavior that is impossible under a certain set of beliefs. A similar pattern exists whether we are discussing individuals, organizations, or societies.

There are a set of beliefs and assumptions that shape the system, an identity behind the habits. Behavior that is incongruent with the self will not last. You may want more money, but if your identity is someone who consumes rather than creates, then you’ll continue to be pulled toward spending rather than earning. You may want better health, but if you continue to prioritize comfort over accomplishment, you’ll be drawn to relaxing rather than training. It’s hard to change your habits if you never change the underlying beliefs that led to your past behavior. You have a new goal and a new plan, but you haven’t changed who you are.”
